FN Unveils The FN SCAR 15P 300 Blackout

Featured in:

FN has announced the highly anticipated SCAR 15P chambered in .300 Blackout, a SCAR pistol that makes much more sense to shooters than the original 7.5-inch barrel release in 5.56x45mm. The platform debuted in late 2022 as a civilian alternative to the SCAR SC personal defense weapon.

At just under 20 inches in overall length with its 7.5-inch cold hammer-forged and chrome-lined barrel, the SCAR 15P 300BLK incorporates the more recent SCAR tradition of non-reciprocating charging handles. The new 15P includes gas regulator settings for subsonic and supersonic ammunition, a .30-caliber flash hider and a dedicated Magpul .300 BLK magazine, allowing more reliable feeding of heavier subsonic projectiles as they tend to seat just a tad longer. As with all variants of the SCAR, the .300 BLK pistol will be available in black and 50 shades of FDE. All of this comes packaged in a premium, soft-sided carry case.

Note FN still doesn’t warranty any SCAR that has been shot suppressed, even with a gas setting for exactly that purpose from the factory and despite that for many .300 BLK shooters, shooting suppressed is a huge attraction for the caliber. Unfortunately, this still seems to be the case, making little sense with the company’s inclusion of suppressed gas settings and the fact that suppressor use is a major component for .300 BLK shooters. Let’s face it, however, those of us who own SCARS and love them will scarcely allow this to stop us from obtaining another, no matter how hard we try even with an MSRP of $3,699.

Additionally, anyone who already owns the FN SCAR 15P in 5.56x45mm will now be able to purchase the .300 BLK barrel assembly, which includes the bottom Picatinny rail, gas block, piston, regulator and .30-caliber muzzle device, allowing them to swap calibers in minutes. The same is true for anyone who purchases the 15P in .300 BLK, as complete 5.56x45mm barrel assemblies will also be available.

“The SCAR family is renowned for its uncompromising reliability, durability and accuracy – the hallmark of FN’s quality…We are proud to say that the FN SCAR 15P in .300 BLK continues to expand the platform while delivering a shooting experience worthy of the name,” says Benjamin Voss with FN America.

The reliable FN SCAR operating system in the compact and lightweight configuration of the 15P .300 BLK is a perfect home and personal defense weapon and a great addition to any SCAR collection, perhaps my own in the future.
