Holstra. This is a company name that may not ring many bells with shooters, but the Cape Coral, Florida-based company is changing that. Holsra is making a name for itself among shooters by focusing on one main product… a holster that works for appendix or behind-the-back carry, with adjustable cant, ride height, and dual clips… all for under forty dollars. Many models are under thirty. That says a lot in today’s market.

I asked a company representative to provide a bit of background information about the company, as there isn’t much online, and this is what she said:

“Holstra was born out of frustration.

Most holsters on the market make compromises because few were specifically designed for appendix carry. You see a lot of holsters designed specifically for behind the hip, or that can also work for appendix.

We wanted a holster designed specifically for Appendix Carry and nothing else. No compromises.

So, the Holstra holster was designed from the get-go with a specific purpose in mind.

Many folks carry a pistol in the appendix or small-of-the-back positions, but not all holsters are designed for such carry. If the holster isn’t small, adjustable, and designed from the start for those types of carry, you might have problems. Of course, you are not limited to those two carry positions, but the holster was designed with them in mind. 

The Holstra holster is made for the following brands of pistols:

• Glock
• Ruger
• S&W
• Sig
• Springfield Armory
• Taurus

I got one for an SA Hellcat, one of the original models. This one wears a red dot, but holster fit with the sight attached was not an issue. Here are some photos…

Note the dual clips. That aids in adjustability and holster retention.

The optional claw helps pull the holster in tight and holds it securely. It costs all of seven dollars to add. Wow,,, that’s amazingly cheap!

Here are the options that are available to the shooter…

Hand: both left and right are available

Gun: We mentioned above the brands that the holster is made for. Each brand has at least one model of pistol included.

Claw: As mentioned above, add a claw for $7.

Other Features

• Adjustable retention. You have two screws that you can adjust to increase or decrease retention.
• Covered Mag Release. The mag release button is covered, so you can’t accidentally dump your mag when holstering.
• Optics Cut. The holster is made for red-dot-mounted pistols.
• Tuckable. Tuck your shirt in over the gun for maximum concealment.
• Full Grip. You can get your full firing grip from the initial draw; there is room for that.

Summing Up

I know this quick look at this innovative holster wasn’t exactly a deep dive, but I thought you would like to know that there is a holster company right here in the U.S. that has the needs of concealed carriers in mind. They sell one product, and (from what I can see) they’ve done a good job with it. It seems solid, and once in place on your belt, it doesn’t move.
